I have a 13 yr. Old chihuahua he has been having some sneezing/wheezing episodes. They last 30-90 sec occur after sleeping or laying for long periods

Respiratory problems can be caused by a number of things, so if the wheezing symptoms continue it is best to have your vet take a look, especially if they last more than a day or worsen. Wheezing could be anything from simple allergies, to illness, structural problems with the throat or lungs, heart issues and more and requires a full examination to determine the cause. Be sure to let your vet know of any other symptoms in addition to the wheezing such as changes in appetite, weight, exercise tolerance, etc. If you see a wheezing episode that is very bad to the point of your dog gasping for air or blue/pale tongue or gums, seek veterinary care ASAP.
