Confused about MacPaw Apple Community

It’s a beautifully designed, powerful app focused on delivering seamless user experience and unmatched privacy. And never seen it on my computer before, prior to reading an article by them the other day. There are no known viruses, i.e. self propagating, for Macs. There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.

In other words, you pay a set monthly price for access to the store and can download as many apps as you want. Then I used the program for two weeks to make sure that I see any problems people reporting while using the app. I didn’t want to be like other reviewers, who just installed the software, played for an hour, made a YouTube video, and forget about it. While CleanMyMac is packed with features, many of them can be done manually if you know how to. For instance, the uninstalling part can be done with the free AppCleaner app.

So, run this when the Mac startup is slow or

when annoyed with “please update” notifications. This section contains Hung Applications and Heavy Consumers items. If they appear disabled on your screen, it’s because you have none at the moment. But, in case you start seeing a spinning rainbow wheel, you can use CleanMyMac to quit bad apps (or use Command+Option+Esc).

Drop a file into Encrypto, set a password, and then send it with added security. Taking photos with iPhone is easy and fun, sorting them out — not so much. Download Gemini Photos and clear unwanted pics with ease. I have Bitwarden for password creation and privacy. I suppose I could slow Safari to create and store secure passwords, but I also use Chrome and Firefox, so that wouldn’t work.

Similar to Login Items, there are annoying background

applications that I’d like to go away. Finally, I was able to disable the

JavaUpdater. Every time Java pops up, I think whether it’s a virus or a legit

Java pop-up. If you want to know more about selecting antimalware products, check my post here. I don’t keep sync photos to my Macs, so I can’t comment on

the usefulness of Photo Junk option.

Excellent and timely customer service - had my problem solved quickly and courteously. The customer service reps at MacPaw were persistent in helping me with my problem. I thought it would be way harder than it was to get to a solution, but they did and with courtesy and professionalism. Timely customer service is a rare commodity these days. This fact, however, doesn't mean that these apps can't do its dirty work by using other application code that works outside of the OS X system to do its possible damage to a user's system. Some of those features may be differently supported in the next OS update, or are largely useless in your work flow.

This is one of the prerequisites of being able to allow an app to be sold and available/downloadable from the Mac App Store. All thanks to the "usefulness" of apps like CleanMyMac. Sesrch these and all Mac and OS X related forums on these Apple Communities on both MacKeeper and CleanMyMac and similar apps. If the Apple user manuals were a little more explicit about what’s needed & what is not, there would be no confusion (assuming anyone reads them). Nevertheless, if you can’t define a need for the app, then research it before deciding based on sales pitch alone. Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary OR needed.

While I can do a decent painting job, it takes me 3-4 times more time to do the same thing as to someone who does it for a living. And since I can only work on remodeling in the evenings, it may take me two weeks to do what the full-time painter does in 8 hours. For example, I know how to paint and if I need to paint my house I can do it myself.

You will find out quickly that these apps are less than useful, at the very least, and serious malware/garbageware, at best. You'll see first hand what these apps are capable of doing to a perfectly normal running Mac. I have to believe that the concerns are not quite as dire as some make out if its still available on the appstore. The same goes for any other application claiming it will 'clean up' your Mac or improve performance.

I believe, incorrect app usage causes all negative reviews

on Apple forums. It goes against our guidelines to offer incentives for reviews. We also ensure all reviews are published without moderation.

But I still hire a professional painter to do the job. Now, when we have done with the technical review, let’s talk

money. If there is one thing I respect most, then it’s honesty.

I don’t remember how many times I removed a file, and I needed it again

the next day. So be cautious and review what you are deleting. If I had a lot

of disk space, then I wouldn’t run this at all. Companies that hide the way you cancel their subscription as hard as possible and purposely design their cancellation UX to just not let you normally cancel are such a cancer in today's world. What is wrong with the people that actually approve designs, etc., like this?

You can delete Language Files if you are not running any

apps with a foreign language UI, i.e., if you are bilingual and you have apps

Alternatively, you can right-click on the large file, reveal. in Finder and delete from there. So, for me, just this Uninstaller option is well worth the. money I spent.

CleanMyMac X has also got a fantastic fresh look that perfectly matches the macOS Big Sur style. But the thing is, I hate when people throw opinions about

something without proof. The only evidence I recognized when it comes to the

software is testing. I am a software engineer, after all, and I know how to

test.

In the Menu tab under Health and Monitoring, set the notifications

such as hung applications or low RAM. If you are getting too many pop-ups from

CleanMyMac, this is the area to turn them off. Extensions, as the name suggests, allows managing Safari

extensions and a number of other network plug-ins. I understand what to do with

Safari extensions, but I am not sure about other options. I always suggest keeping the software up to date. But what about the files created in other folders?

I found it easier to grant Full Disk Access first and then use it (see System Junk). Customer service for the product clean my Mac was excellent. I experienced a double charge and they promptly removed one of the charges. SCAM - but that's a normal thing in their country...

Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance. CleanMyMac X's Cleanup, Protection, and Speed tools are its best ones. And thanks to the Smart Scan tool, the easiest ones to perform.

CleanMyMac X is available through a yearly subscription or one-time purchase. The former gives you unlimited access to major updates, while the latter will require paying upgrade fees. Prices start at $40, although you can often find a sale on both types of licenses. You'll also find discounts when more than one license is purchased at a time. Some give you a graphic wrapper over Unix command line functions, or access hidden functions the OS is capable of, like adding double arrows to your scroll bars. Its like a huckster telling you that you had gout, or cancer, but now its all gone, all cured... (That’s the most usual source–at least you didn’t pay full price).

If you are ready to go from trial to paid version, you can

do it either online or from the app (it still opens a browser). On MacPaw web

site, provide credit card or PayPal information and get the license code. With all junk getting accumulated on your Mac over the

years, periodic cleaning gives a performance boost. If your Mac is so old that

it has HDD instead of SSD, the performance boost would be even more noticeable. And the main thing – I know which files are safe to delete and which are not.
