My kitty is about 10 weeks old and has stomach worms. She was a stray before she was found and cleaned up and handed to me so she was pretty skinny, she’s gotten a little chunky but it’s slow process because of the worms which she’s being treated for. Once we get it taken care of, will she begin gaining the weight on her own or are there extra steps I should take with her food? She eats a combination of wet and dry kitten food.

She should be at a good weight within a month if fed normal kitten food per the manufacturers directions (usually on the bag or can). There is nothing extra you would need to do, except ensure the worms are taken care of and she is well vaccinated. Your vet should be able to help out with that.

It is good that she gains weight gradually. There is no need to rush the weight gain. As long as she is getting fed well with kitten food, she will be getting all the necessary nutrients and should be healthy.

One thing you want to avoid is overcompensating. Fat cats tend to be less healthy and not live as long as skinny cats. Make sure she is at an ideal weight by only feeding as recommended by the food manufacturer or your veterinarian. Below is a link to a chart that explains how to tell the differences in body condition.

I hope that helps and all is well with Peanut Butter Cup.
