My 12 year old dachshunds right back leg is giving out on her. All of her other legs work just fine, but it’s just that one leg. She’ll try to walk on all fours and then just give up and sit down. She carries that one leg that’s giving her a problem up in the air sometimes. She also is shaking. I wonder if she has done something to her leg or if the cold weather is giving her arthritis a problem. I’m giving her 75 mg of rimadyl every 12 hours.

I’m sorry to hear Tootsie’s leg is bothering her. Common problems affecting the back leg are knee cap problems and ACL injuries, of course there are many other possibilities as well. I am pretty worried about the Rimadyl dosing however. You stats she is a 25 pound dog and you are giving 75 mg twice a day? That is about 3 times her calculated dose. I would recommend discontinuing the medication at this time to avoid serious injury to her gastrointestinal tract. I would also encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They can verify an appropriate rimadyl dose and other medications if needed as well. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
