I took my ferret to the vet just now after a bad fall. I took her immediately after the incident. He said it’s a head trauma. She keeps tilting her head to the right side awkwardly. What are the chances she makes it ? She looks ok. Until she tries to stand up that’s when her head tilts. Help. Thank.

It really depends on the damage done and her current condition. If she is able to eat and drink on her own right now, then this is a good sign that the damage is not very severe. However, it's always possible that her condition can get worse with major head trauma, so I say this cautiously.

A head tilt indicates that there was damage to her brain stem, or vestibular system. For these to be damaged from trauma, there would have had to been a lot of force and likely other parts of the cranium were damaged too.

If she does not have major damage to any other part of the brain, then she can recover from this and can regain most, if not all, her balance in the future.

Without examining her, or knowing more about her specific case, I unfortunately cannot give much more of a prognosis than this.

If you have further questions or need further clarification, then you may consider having an online consult with one of our vets on Petcoach. This way, you can send unlimited pictures and have a text conversation with a vet.

I hope that helps and Joey gets better soon.
