My dog has mites and is ripping his skin apart. Is human lice shampoo good to use. Our vet has not given us answers

It may kill some but likely not all the mites. Fpr that, you will need a prescribed treatment such as ivermectin injections. Some topical flea/tick preventatives have been used "off label" to treat mites but you will need to discuss options/risks with your vet.
