Hi there, my 18 year old dog seems to have fleas(?) behind her on the back/underside of her ears? We have treated her for fleas and bathed her multiple times, but accumulations of flea dirt keeps accumulating there. She is also losing her fur there. Her ears seem itching, but not distressingly so. She shakes her head some and rubs them on our legs sometimes. Wondering if there could be something else other than fleas happening?

She could have ear mites or an ear infection that is contributing the scratching and irritation. Depending on what type of flea medication you used, you may need to change. I have found Bravecto, Nexgard or Simparica works the best. These are all tablets you give by mouth. The majority of a flea problem is the environment so getting the yard and house treated will help.
