When was the last time she was in heat? Is there anyway she could be pregnant? Dogs can also experience a false pregnancy after heat, and to make matters more complications they can also develop a pyometra. This is a large pus filled uterus and is life threatening. All 3 of these can cause distended abdomen and discomfort. I would recommend an examination by your veterinarian to make sure they are not concerned about a pyometra.
