My 7 year old pitbull just started getting these scabs on him and underneath them when they fall off there are alot of open sores what could this be and it has a really bad smell.. what should i do for him

It sounds like you are describing a bacterial or yeast infection. These can be secondary from allergies from food or environment or due to a low thyroid. You can do a medicated bath twice a week to help with the odor and the scabs. your vet can submit lab samples to check the thyroid level and see what antibiotics are needed to clear the infection. In severe cases, medication are needed for 4-8 weeks as not treating it long enough it a reason it keeps coming back
