Our springer spaniel was 9. We haven’t even had the prostate biopsy result back yet. Treatment was 2,000 pounds. He was put to sleep after 2 days in a vet overnight. Why did he go from a healthy dog to death door in around 12 hours? Can prostate infection or enlargement cause thst to happen so quickly?

A prostatic abscess could come on quickly, and as with any infection it can sometimes get out of control for various reasons and lead to sepsis or a blood infection. Sepsis can be difficult to treat and animals can decline quickly despite aggressive treatment. I would think that prostate cancer is still a possibility as well. I am so sorry for your loss.
